Genbyg (recycled) Design

Genbyg Design (recycled design) specializes in making furniture from upcycled building materials. In their Copenhagen workshop they create unique, functional pieces with the emphasis on sustainable design. This piece is one of my favorites, a desk made from old filing drawers and salvaged Oregon pine. Shake it.

19 Pots – Nir Meiri

Using disposable plant pots painted gold inside Nir Meiri‘s 19 flower pots become brilliant lampshades. The 19 Pot lamps are currently on display at the Paradigma Design Gallery in Tel Aviv as part of the Gold Mine exhibition through July 8th 2011. Everything that is old is new again. Shake it.

Foundation Shelf – Benjamin Hubert

Benjamin Hubert‘s new shelving system is made of Valchromat with steel box files that are pulled out with leather tabs. Valchromat is wood fiber that has been covered in organic dyes, then sealed with resin to keep the natural look of the fiber. The wood for the Valchromat is sourced from forest waste and recycled pine. Benjamin Hubert designed this striking and wonderfully practical piece for the Heal Foundation for Autism.

Tom Dixon- Offcut Series

Tom Dixon has created these wonderful stools and benches from what was once considered rubbish. Using irregular pieces of discarded wood he pieces together a fabulously askew collection of clean lines that make you want to look for that extra moment.  Shakin it up by creating new from old.

New from Gus* Design Group

Gus* Design Group makes modern furniture inspired by simple forms and sustainable materials.  Gus* creates good design with practical purpose. They provide quality pieces at a what I consider to be a refreshing price point.

Below are the new pieces they now have available.  The tables are an example of smart modern design with functional features.  Frankly, in day to day life, I like to have some sort of storage within my coffee and end tables.  They made that happen, adding interest without having to muddy it with drawers.  Lets face it guys, we all have a remote to put somewhere..

Gus* is proud to be an FSC-certified company, manufacturing its upholstered seating with 100% FSC-certified wood in support of responsible forest management.

Shake it Gus*
