Hooks & Knobs – Chocolate Creative

Sometimes the simplest things thrill me. I just love these new wood knobs which can double as wall hooks from Chocolate Creative. Such an easy way to update some drab cupboards, an entry way, or an old dresser. Chocolate Creative’s London studio hand makes them and uses eco water based paint and varnish. Shake it.

Ally Capelino – Frames Collection

Last year I was swooning over Ally Capelino’s vintage inspired waxed canvas bags, this season her Frames collection has caught my eye. The Frame group are elegant bags made in rich Italian leather and lined with soft cotton. They have blackened steel frames and rounded brass clasps, a toughened up contemporary twist on the traditional feminine frame bag. Ally is bringin it back again. Shake it.

Sandra Dieckmann Illustration

Sandra Dieckmann is a freelance illustrator living and working in East London. Her work mainly evolves from nature and wildlife. My favorites pieces are her mystical illustrations of bears. Her shop is full of wonderful finds—originals works, pins, pocket mirrors, cards, iphone cases and totes. Digital Artist said of her work…

“The best folktales have a dark edge. Conversely, the best folk art pops with colour – perhaps as a visual way of whistling in the dark, perhaps a celebration of the richness of northern Europe’s storytelling tradition. Sandra Dieckmann’s nature inspired illustration has got that elusive, comfortable yet disquieting quality in spades.”  Shake it Sandra.

James Plumb Suitcase Chests

Aha! You know how I love vintage beauty with unique, eco-conscious, upcycling. These charming cases can be stacked in various configurations or can be made as single units. It’s wonderful to think about the travels of each piece and yet with James Plumb‘s craftsmanship they are able to take on a second life. Plumb says…

“A selection of old suitcases are housed individually in antiqued steel and wood cases that have been tailor made in Somerset. Each set is unique with the metal framework customized to thesuitcase’s varied dimensions. Every case is carefully and painstakingly repaired and re-purposed – relined in Swedish linen ready to receive their new contents. Stacks of different numbers and different widths are available and can be commissioned.”

And now I get to say—everything that is old is new again. Shake it.

Jacqueline Rabun – Letters

In London’s Belgravia can be found an old stable, inside is a magical boutique. Antique furniture, soft spotlights, and glass cases in which are the wonderful creations of Jacquline Rabun. Her letter collection is brilliant. Each three dimensional letter, number and symbol, is available in 18-carat yellow and white gold with pave diamond and silver. The weight and scale of each piece can stand alone… a simple ampersand or a special word. What a lovely gift it would be.

Male Bonding – Nothing Hurts- “Year’s Not Long”

Male Bonding is a three piece out of London appropriately signed to Subpop. Their debut album ‘Nothing Hurts’ brings me back to the music I know and love. While many reviews mention similarities to Jay Mascus, a throw back to the 90′s, and low-fi sounds…that description alone simply rings my bell. Male Bonding has an updated, indie punk rock energy, mixed with wonderfully scrappy melodies. Check out the video for their single “Nothing Hurts” it is well worth it. Thanks for shakin it Male Bonding.

Bear In Heaven- A Nice Moment During the Dust Cloud

I have been waiting for Bear in Heaven to come out with a video, apparently the Icelandic volcanic eruption made that happen. The band was stranded in the Madrid airport, took their cameras to London and created this. While I wish a Bear In Heaven video was released under better circumstances, I am thrilled to finally have one out there. Bear in Heaven has been my favorite musical find in quite some time. Enjoy “Dust Cloud” from their album “Beast Rest Forth Mouth”
