Laura Redburn – Cardboard Cities

Laura Redburn is a 25-year-old collage and mixed media artist living in Cardiff, Wales. Laura says she is inspired by color, animals, nature, old films, science fiction and vivid imagination. She likes to create snapshots from dreams and other worlds in her work, leaving the viewer to reflect upon their own dreams, imagination and experiences, to gather their own meaning from the illustrations. That big, brown bear just makes me smile, I love him. Shake it Laura.

David Gomez Maestre Illustration

Mixed media artist David Gómez Maestre combines photography, illustration and mysticism to create these fashion inspired illustrations. The Alicante based artist uses photography of real people and pop culture icons then adds his own geometric, tribal flare. Not sure which one is my fave… Richard Gere is pretty great! Shake it.

Shaun Kardinal – Connotations

Seattle artist Shaun Kardinal creates these wonderful, embroidered mixed media pieces. He says – “I am constantly inspired by, frustrated with, raving about, and occasionally crushed by the work around me. I cannot see enough of it. I must always hear more of it. Even when I’ve worn myself out of it.” Shake it Shaun.

Guest Blog – Stephanie Meininger of iheartmies

iheartmies = simple things for complicated folks.  my collaging was born out of my colossal paper collection, a love of mies van der rohe and my muse which is a lot of one thing.
the paper collection is comprised of books, maps, encyclopedias, architectural plans, phone books, ledger papers and an extensive number of books on the royal family.
mies van der rohe he is my favorite architect and the namesake for iheartmies. much of my inspiration comes from his ideas about structure, proportion and modernity with regards to architecture and design.

.
a lot of one thing
i appreciate negative space in a field
a field composed of a lot of one thing
a lot of one thing is definetly one of my muses
a lot of one thing is just the right mix of minimalism and complexity
it is intricate in its inception yet simple in its final form

Ashkan Honarvar – Mixed Media

Dutch artist Ashkan Honavar‘s work tends to change drastically from series to series—some are definitely not for the squeamish and some are let’s just say a bit more risque than this one, entitled Conquest from 2011. Dee Dee (my grandma) just look at this one ok? Conquest was inspired by European colonial history. I find them luxurious, lavish and yet oddly unsettling. Ashkan’s work depicts an undeniable, unavoidable beauty by accepting the darker sides of human nature. Oh dear Ashkan I do believe you know how to shake it.

Julien Pacaud – Art and Illustration

It took me a bit to come up with words for Julien‘s work. His pieces certainly make me think. Retro with a wild imagination, kinetic imagery, rich story telling, vivid color and for a moment he takes me away to another world—which I ended up finding out is his intention. Julien said “Before becoming an illustrator, I was, by turns : an astrophysician, an international snooker player, a hypnotist and an esperanto teacher. I hope I can someday have enough free time to devote myself to my real passion : time travel.” Take me away Julien. Shake it.

Sebastion Vallejo – Mixed Media

When Capree Kimball from Maiya posted these paintings on Pinterest I let out a little gasp. Color! Sebastion Vallego was born in Puerto Rico in 1982 and now lives and paints in New York. His list of materials makes me smile…oil paint, acrylic paint, spray paint, plastic bags, fabric, glitter and color pencil. Shake it Sebastion.

Living Feral – Tracy Jager

Tracy Jager assembles stunning and evocative dreamscape collages from hand cut vintage materials. “I prefer material from the 60s and 70s  because I like the imagery and colors and print quality from that period. I usually find them scouting around thrift stores,” she says. “My collage work is influenced by my interest in dreams, philosophy, poetry, and psychology, among other subjects.” Shake it Tracy.

Aaron Farley – Collage

“Photographer Aaron Farley thinks of collages as a way to bring more than one moment of time together by using multiple pictures – each a captured moment – in his work.  Working with his own photos, he creates juxtapositions of depth and texture that vibrate in a zone between the abstraction of thoughts and daydreams and the concreteness of the photographed image.” – Little Paper Planes
