Magnetic LED Bike Light – Kickstarter

The Magnetic Bike Light is a new product designed by Goodmorning Technology for Copenhagen Parts. They have a Kickstarter  going with 16 days left, and only $6000 left to reach their goal. With an expected retail price of $40, the magnetic LED simply attaches to any steel framed part of your bike, automatically switching on for your bike ride and then off again when you remove it. How cool is that!? If you want to buy one and back their project at the same time, visit their kickstarter page here. Shake it.

Bike Love – Urban Cycles Porteur

I usually swoon over sleek road bikes, but lately I have seen some porteur commuter bikes that might make me change my tune. This black porteur from Sweden’s Urban Cycles is my current crush. They take old, forgotten frames and recondition them into single speed and fixed gear bicycles. This one was stripped, painted and then dressed up with fancy components, a Brooks saddle and a Gamoh King Carrier. Shake it Urban Cycles.

Reclaimed Wood Bike Rack

As you know I tend to get pretty excited about bicycles, riding mine of course, but also about their design–bikes as art. Here is the perfect way to frame your bike and hang it on the wall. The wall mounted bike rack by Cantilever and Press is made of reclaimed wood and end-cuts. They say about their design “Utilizing this rack in an apartment or room helps minimize clutter as it makes your prized bike a focal point rather than a hallway-hazard” and I say, everything that is old is new again. Shake it.

Icarus – Bike Love

Ian Sutton is Icarus Frames. He designed this bike to be ridden on the streets daily, but also to be suitable for track racing. It was shown in the Philly Bike Expo. I love the simple lines and the hand-carved detail. Sutton says “Icarus is now my life. Each frame is an opportunity to expand the look and design of Icarus. People aren’t stock so neither are my bikes – each one crafted for the particular client, in fit, ride characteristics and aesthetics.” Oh what a crush I have on this bike! Shake it.

I love My Bike

I love my bike. I also love this t-shirt I ordered from Brittain and Matt, the authors of a book recently released with the same name – I Love My Bike “The book that we are creating is not about a singular style of bike or type of cycling, but rather about all of us in a grand kinship of bicycles. We want to capture the strength, will power, and grit as well as the creativity, sense of humor, and whimsy of riding a bike.” Shake it guys.

Downtown From Behind

With the lens focused  on NYC’s bum, Downtown From Behind stands apart from the countless fashion-blogs with it’s unconventional spin on style photography. The site showcases back views of bicycle riders on the streets of lower Manhattan, creating “an environmental portrait for each street and its subject.” Photographer Bridgett Flemming notes…

that Downtown From Behind showcases an eclectic cast of individuals ranging from local architects and designers to stylists, decorators, musicians, artists, hoteliers, chefs—anyone who has an impact on their specific downtown neighborhood, be it through their profession or just by living in the area. Ride on NYC.

Shake it.

One Bicycle by Esclice – Bike Art

As you know sometimes I look at bikes as something to be hung on the wall and admired. This would be one of those times. Esclice, a design brand from Latvia, showed this cycle with a natural oak wood handlebar and a minibar at the London Design Festival. The bike is clean, simple, and uses high quality materials with the goal of creating a pure form of transportation. The One uses a Bridgestone belt drive and crazy cool, white Vittoria tires. shake it.

Portland’s Sizemore Cycles

Custom and bespoke Sizemore bicycles are built in Portland, Oregon by Taylor Sizemore. Each bike is designed to fit not only the riders body, but their individual riding style and intended use. “Approaching the subject with a blank sheet of paper insures full integration and tailoring of your bicycle, creating a seamless machine with defined purpose.” My dream. Shake it Sizemore.

The ThinBike

The ThinBike is an urban bicycle designed to lay almost flush with the wall. ThinBike is a collaboration with bike manufacturer Schindelhauer and Graham Hill, the founder of TreeHugger.com, “I figured that if you could have a system whereby you could fold the bars and pedals then you’d have a much more storable, luggable bike and therefore could more easily incorporate it into a small apartment lifestyle.” Check out the video below, it’s one slim and sexy bike! Shake it.
